Little sister and I,
Would play in the ditch near our mobile home,
That sat on nearly two acres of land.
With plenty of horny toads,
Jack rabbits, road runners,
Garden snakes in our backyard.

We would ride the wagon,
To the rim of the arroyo,
With the handle turned inward as a steering wheel.
We would ride doubles,
Down the slope, and end at the bottom in the
Sand, and giggle in delight.

Chorus:
And little sister’s hair is red in the sun,
As she ran around having so much fun.
And little sister’s eyes are sable brown. It made me
So happy, I could kiss the ground. (Repeat chorus.)

We would make mud pies,
And swing on our swing set, in
The Silver City sunset, orange and gold.
Yucca Stalks like soldiers,
On guard, a juniper tree blowing a
Fragrance, in my nose.

Reprise:
Yellow desert grass tall
And dry, and my skin is brown and
Dark, sweet and pure.
