There's a cool little write up in the May issue of the Inland Empire Magazine about up and coming, local female musicians. Some of my favorites that were mentioned include: Crystal McKee and Apryle Dalmacio. Many of you may know already that Crystal McKee started the Female Acoustic Showcase that has been running in the Inland Empire for over three years now. And of course, they did mention my name too! I wish I would have know about it beforehand! So, I could have submitted a photo to them. It was nice to be mentioned though. It was a nice surprise.  :)

We were nominated online as "Musicians of the Year" for the RAW Artist Showcase in Riverside! Now, we will have a chance to compete against Riverside and Pomona artists for an opportunity to become the national winners! The Semi-Finals Showcase will be next month! Votes will be tallied LIVE at the show! Then, a panel of judges will decide the winners in each category! Keep posted for more details!

What can you expect when attending RAW Showcase? We screen an independent film (usually a short, webisode or music video), a fashion show from an up-and-coming local designer, a musical performance, an art gallery featuring several independent visual artists, and performance art (comedy/dance/fire dancers, you name it...). I was honored to receive the award for Best FOLK at the IEMA show! It was a fun event! Thanks for all the folks at the Inland Empire Weekly who put on the sixth annual awards show.

I've been nominated for "Best Female" at the Street Official Music Awards to be held on Saturday, October 9th at 8:00 p.m. at the historic Grove Theatre located in Upland, CA. I'm very excited to be playing on the same bill with the Rockabilly Queen, Wanda Jackson at the very first "Ruffneck Days" to take place on October 2nd and 3rd at the Mill Creek Cattle Company located in Mentone, California. This very special two-day event will feature a host of both local and national acts including rockabilly, bluegrass and country music.

Headliners on Saturday, October 2nd will be L.A.'s very own Kings of Country Swing, The Lucky Stars and on Sunday, October 3rd will be the Queen of Rockabilly, Wanda Jackson.

Mobetta Loretta will be opening on Sunday, October 3rd at 12:00 noon.

I made my stage debut in New York City on Monday, July 5^th, 2010 at B.B. King’s. I was invited to join the stage with some very prestigious musicians. I sang my original blues song, “Go On.” Then, cruised over to join the jam with Ritchie Canatta located in Greenwich Village at the Bitter End. Just getting to play in the same establishment where Bob Dylan and so many other big name artists played was an exhilarating experience! It was very exciting to be accompanied by some of the best musicians in NYC, including Ritchie Canatta (Billy Joel band).

The 3rd Annual Female Acoustic Showcase is headed to town again! Be sure to check out an incredible line up of talented females on July 11th at Victoria Gardens, Rancho Cucamonga and Encore Performance on July 24th at Riverside Plaza!

This Fourth of July Holiday will be a blast!  I'll be hitting the road again to make several jam sessions July 2nd - July 5th, with some very prestigious musicians! I'm very fortunate to be invited to play in their company! Check us out at the Bitter End on Sunday, July 4th in NYC.

We will be on the road again with our dear friends, Sal & Isela! This time we're  headed to Central California, where Sal & Isela used to live in Lompoc. Our trip to New Mexico was an exciting roadtrip! We caravaned across three states and managed to boycott Arizona as well. Well, except for the speeding ticket that my friend, Sal got. He got zapped with the cameras!

We played at a very nice venue that had an audience of over 300 people! We met some fantastic people including Dr. Maria Trillo from Casa de la Cultura and Georgina Ortega from Casa in Las Vegas, NM. We met some folks from NPR radio and hooked up with the Morning Show with Gwyn & Lori 88.1 FM.

We were honored to also play at the Juan Chacon Union Hall. We met some miners and important activists there, including Huetotel Lopez, who is fighting hard to help preserve the Juan Chacon Union Hall. We had the chance to tell/play our story and to listen to their stories---One miner who spoke is 94 yrs. old!

There will be a Centennial Celebration for Mining Days on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. located at the Juan Chacon Union Hall in Bayard, New Mexico (Highway 180 East). The event will feature guest speakers, including Loretta Chacon (niece of Juan Chacon), along with miners and activists who will commemorate the history of mining that has gone back 500 years.

The event will feature a photographic art display of the women who were involved in the strike at the Zinc Mines and which were featured in the movie, "Salt of the Earth." A special screening of Loretta Chacon's documentary which features her great Aunt, Virginia Chacon and Juan Chacon, Jr. will be screened during the event.

Special performance by the Mobetta Loretta band performing songs from their recent CD, "Salt of the Earth," which was inspired by both Chacon's family history and the mining district surrounding Silver City, New Mexico.  

I am very proud and excited to share with you that we will be featured at the upcoming VIVA NEW MEXICO 2010 Concert on May 7th from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the Cobre High School Fine Arts Auditorium located in Bayard, New Mexico.

The event will take place to honor the men and women who overcame discrimination and obtained civil rights in New Mexico and for miners all over the nation.

The event is sponsored by Casa de la Cultura and co-sponsored by the National Hispanic Cultural Center and the Casa de Cultura (Las Vegas).

Tickets are $10 each for adults (children free). Available now for advance purchase at A.I.R. Mountain Coffeehouse, Chino Federal Credit Union, Ft. Bayard Credit Union, Food Basket, and the Santa Clara Catholic Parrish.
